Candidate Evaluation

Some organizations use evaluation forms to grade candidates in terms of technical competence, managing skills, motivation, judgment and several other concepts. Formats are not all the same, a company may have a standard form to be used by the human resources department (the project manager, included), and another for the other executives interviewing candidates. In this case, we call the first form the “pre-selection form” and the second one the “selection form”. Most large organizations have developed one or both forms and they provide a good record for future reference and possible candidate recalling. The project manager should review all evaluation forms and come up with a summary and ranking of candidates to be presented to the other interviewers so that a conclusion is reached, or he could present those same findings to the immediate supervisor for a decision. It is usually the immediate supervisor who makes the final selection together with his / her boss.
